(Email Robyn Massa)

The Realtime Captioning Technology Program offers a specialization leading to a diploma as either a Realtime Court Reporter or Realtime Scopist Reporter.

The Realtime Captioning Technology Program is designed to prepare students for entry level careers in court reporting, deposition reporting, convention and educational captioning and Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) which provides services for deaf and hard-of-hearing people. Reporters accompany deaf clients to high school or college classes to provide an instant conversion of speech into text using the reporter's stenotype machine linked to a notebook computer.

The Judicial Reporter program is approved by the National Court Reporters Association's (NCRA) Council on Approved Student Education.

Students receive instruction in realtime theory, realtime captioning technology, law and legal terminology, medical terminology and realtime reporting procedures. Income varies depending on the type of reporting jobs and experience of the individual reporter. The median income for realtime reporting is about $50,000.
