The Realtime Captioning Technology Program
offers a specialization leading to a diploma as either
a Realtime Court Reporter or Realtime Scopist Reporter.
The Realtime Captioning Technology Program is designed to
prepare students for entry level careers in court reporting,
deposition reporting, convention and educational captioning
and Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) which
provides services for deaf and hard-of-hearing people. Reporters
accompany deaf clients to high school or college classes
to provide an instant conversion of speech into text using
the reporter's stenotype machine linked to a notebook computer.
The Judicial Reporter program is approved by the National
Court Reporters Association's (NCRA) Council on Approved
Student Education.
Students receive instruction in realtime
theory, realtime captioning technology, law and legal terminology,
medical terminology and realtime reporting procedures. Income
varies depending on the type of reporting jobs and experience
of the individual reporter. The median income for realtime
reporting is about $50,000.

This program is approved by the National Court Reporters
Association (NCRA).
