CULINARY ARTS
(Email Brett McCarthy)

WKCTC GalaThe culinary program at WKCTC has made remarkable headway in the last two years under the direction of Chef Brett McCarthy along with his colleague and Chef Vicki Koehler.

After a complete renovation of the dining room, kitchen and classrooms, the program entered into a new era of culinary training. We now can compete with the big boys and provide our students with the training that will make them competitive in the market today.

A stellar staff is needed for a good program and in August of 2007, we will once again make good on that promise and expand our teaching staff to include industry professional Brian Hershey, Executive Food and Beverage Director for the Paducah Country Club who will teach part-time for our program. Returning to our program in the fall will also be Valerie Jones who will be teaching human relations and nutrition. Ms. Jones is a stellar Professor with a Masters in Home Economics and has taught for the college for over seventeen years.

Fall 2007: Catering students pose for the annual scholarship fundraiser, The Gala. The WKCTC culinary program has catered this event for three years running.

Finally, we have added to the program a TV show appropriately named “Cooking at the College”. With the assistance of the TV Department for WKCTC, this program reaches 24,000 households and also provides a venue for students to hone their skills as participants in the show.

But no program would be complete without our students. They are what make us truly great. So, if you like to cook and you and see yourself as professional in this field, then “I want to cook with you!”
